Former Guest Hospital, Dudley
We were appointed to carry out a measured building survey of the former Guest Hospital in Dudley, West Midlands. The survey was to include all floor plans, elevations and sections through the building as part of a feasibility study into the future use of the site.
The main hospital building, the “cottages”, the lodge and the security building were all surveyed to a high level of accuracy and detail and these buildings were to be retained due to their historical importance.
Other, more modern buildings on the site, which were earmarked for demolition, also needed surveying however the need for accuracy was not so high as the main use of the plans would be to record the results of the asbestos survey and to form part of a historical record. We carried out a search through the archive of old drawings and scanned into CAD the relevant plans and armed with these, we carried out a walk through survey and re-measured alterations as necessary.
Timescales were very tight as our client couldn’t progress their study without the survey information. A programme of works was agreed and every phase of the survey work was delivered on time. The final floor plans covered a total area in excess of 17,000m2 and the project took about 3 months to complete.
